After the break

After a long break I am finally back. I went with my team on a mission overseas. We flew to our dear Ciudad Real to check out not only on Elvis’ vocal improvements, but on grandma’s cooking as well. The trip was rewarding, especially for Boris. After riding camels for twelve long months far away in Mesopotamia, it was really nice to enjoy those awesome tapas that can be found only in Ciudad Real.

I will keep you posted :)

Daphne dreams again

Poor Daphne is not feeling well. Last night she barely slept. She has been running a high fever for the last 24hours and she has been coughing like crazy. Doctor D. says she has a sore-throat, so she gave us some magic medicine. This morning my Daphne came with me to class. Luckily security did not see us entering the building, hehehe.

She watched "Little Einsteins" on the computer while I was in the world of the imperfect subjunctive. Then we went home. Tonight she was running a fever again, but once the medicine kicked in, she went back to her throne in the world of Barney, Elmo, Dora, Diego and co.

Fayetteville 3rd "India Festival"

Last Saturday Daphne and I were able to briefly attend the 3rd Annual India Festival in the Crown Arena of Fayetteville, NC. This year it was a total success and we had a great time. On the sad side, we were not able to try the delicious food they were selling because the queues were eternal...Well, we can always go to the Bombay Bistro, right?

We could enjoy several performances and Daphne started to dance just like the kids on stage. Also, I was able to purchase a couple of movies that I hope to watch once all this madness at my house gets to an end, hopefully by next week.

After so much dancing, Daphne got tired and we headed back home to take a deserved nap. Next year we will be there as sson as they open, so we can choose all the dishes we want.

Remodeling my home

My superhero will be home in just 10 days. In the last minute I decided to do some improvements to our home and now the house is a mess!!! I hope to have everything back to normal before the "deadline". So far, the painting is mission accomplished, and this weekend it is time for the hard-wood floors. I have been removing the carpet and the padding all by myself, so we can save around a thousand bucks right there. My whole body aches and my hands are killing me. I have removed thousands of nails and staples and tones of dust!!! The worst part is that I have no time to watch Bollywood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Running out of time

I want to post, I really, really want to post, but I have no time. Boris Masala will be home in three weeks and I have so many things to do to surprise him!!! I am painting several rooms, the stairs, and hallways. I am also doing some landscaping, fixing the fence and getting estimates from different contractors because I would like to build a patio with red pavers in the backyard, just behind the pool. All this "house work" is on addition to my full-time teaching job, my full-time super-mami job, my part-time soccer-mom job and, of course, my part-time dance-mom job.

I need to tell you something important about me: I love Bollywood. I know that for Europeans and Americans Bollywood may seem crazy, but yet so enjoyable and addictive. The first time I saw a Bollywood movie, I could not stop saying “Oh my God, look what he is wearing” “Oh no, another song nooooooooooooo” But still, I rented another movie, and then another one, and… I have not stopped since.

It happens that many Bollywood movies are guilty of fashion crime. Ladies usually look awesome, but they want to dress the male characters “too cool” and the result is just pitiful. I would post some pics to show you what I am talking about, but I just prefer to use this space just for the opposite: to share with you the fantastic taste displayed in the movie I just bought: Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

The storyline is terrific and I recommend you to watch it. However, I am not going to talk about that. Instead, let me show you some examples of trendy outfits for men worn by Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. As soon as Boris comes back from riding his camels in the dessert, we are going shopping, baby!

Penélope to contaminate Bollywood with her presence

Many think that Penélope Cruz is a wonderful actress that truly deserves to have been nominated for the Golden Globes and the Oscars for her role in “Volver”, but I disagree. Yes, she is cute and all that, but she is by no means a great actress.

To my surprise, I just read in the media and several Bollywood blogs that our most international actress has laid eyes on India and, not only that, she has stated that she would love to work with MY Shah Rukh Khan. Oh No, Penélope, don’t you dare! No with my SRK!!!

Pe will be shooting shortly in India the adaptation of Javier Moro’s novel “Pasion India”, whose film rights belong to her. I personally think that the story is very interesting: Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala falls is love with a flamenco dancer, Anita Delgado, while he was visiting Spain. Anita Delgado, who was in her teens, married the Maharaja and became his fifth wife. I haven’t read the novel yet, but I am pretty sure it is worthwhile and a beautiful movie will spring up.

However… why Penelope again? Why is she “hasta en la sopa”? Why is she dreaming of Bollywood now? I guess she does not have enough with Europe or Hollywood, poor girl. Now she has to invade and contaminate Bollywood, and therefore, make it less special, at least for me. Penélope, if you are reading this, I just ask you for one thing: leave Shah Rukh Khan alone!!!

Now I wonder… who will she date in India to become well-known over there?

After several offers and months of deliberations, Daphne has decided to play this season for the Fayetteville YMCA team. Coach Jennifer has everything ready for this Monday, Feb 19, 2007 at 17:0O, Eastern Time. Without a doubt, Daphne will be one of the top performers this season.

This is my first shot at this thing called blogging. We'll see how it goes... y que Dios reparta suerte.

Let me get started by introducing prince Elvis (es obvio el parecido físico). Elvis lives free at the other side of the seven seas, just where grandma's almond cookies are baked during the winter and where grandpa's music conquers the city twice a week from 3:oo 'til 5:00.

Daphne Masala misses Elvis and she always recalls their experiences together, especially when Señor Tucán shows up in the middle of one of Dora's adventures, if you know what I mean. However, Boris Masala has not met Elvis yet, but he will, maybe this summer... or the next one. He has been kind of busy lately doing what uncle Samgeorge wants, which is unfair but understandable. Last thing I heard from him is that he has turned to be an excellent camel rider. I would call him up right now to remind him to send us some pictures, but my request will have to wait a couple of hours, just until the sun raises in Mesopotamia, 8 hours ahead of us. Sigue durmiendo, mi niño.
